The idea of cross-platform play has been one of the greatest dreams for gamers, generation after generation.

Crossplay has been a hot topic in recent years, but while Nintendo and Microsoft seem to have welcomed the concept with open arms, Sony has been vehemently opposed to the idea of cross-play for some time. However, on PlayStation 4, Sony now supports cross-play but slower throughout introducing the PS4 to the party.

Crossplay support has several benefits, such as having more people to play against and enabling you to compete with friends in other systems.

What is cross-platform play?

Cross-play is the ability to play an online video game across more than one platform. It is an increasingly popular feature in multiplayer games, for obvious reasons, as it allows users on PS4, Xbox, PC, and even mobile devices to play against and alongside each other on the same servers.

Meaning someone playing Fortnite on Nintendo Switch could be on the same server as someone using an Xbox One as well as allowing players to access their player data from those different consoles.
