Here are some tips on maintaining that expensive tourer of yours.

  1. Check Tyres Regularly

Checking your bike tyres should be a routine. Always keep an eye on the air pressure and maintain it as instructed by the manufacturer.

You should also look for cuts and scrapes on the tyres that could lead to a bigger problem. Check the tyre treads once every week.

  1. Check Engine Oil

The engine is the heart of the bike, and engine oil makes sure that everything operates smoothly. Therefore, regularly take a look at the engine oil level and maintain an optimum level always.

Also, be on the lookout for any leakages. Over time, carbon deposits in the oil and dirty oil cause drag in the movement of the engine, leading to higher consumption of fuel and reducing engine life.

  1. Clean Air Filter

India is a dusty country and dust, and other particles can clog up the air filter in no time. You should make sure to keep the air filter clean and change it at recommended intervals.

  1. Clutch Adjustment

A clutch is a part that’s constantly in use, and it is imperative that it functions properly. It should be adjusted correctly in order to offer the right amount of free play.

Make sure that the clutch isn’t over-tightened which can cause it to slip without your notice and lead to an increase in fuel consumption.

  1. Engine

As mentioned earlier, the engine is the heart of your bike and servicing your tourer regularly would keep it running smoothly.

You should clean the carburettor regularly and maintain valve clearances. Also, clean your spark plug and set the gap appropriately.

  1. Transmission System

Your motorcycle’s chain is an important part and requires constant lubrication and adjustment. Hence, clean the chain regularly with paraffin.

Use a brush and piece of cloth to remove any dirt that might be sticking to the chain. Avoid cleaning the chain with water as it can lead to rusting of the chain links.

  1. Cleaning the Surface

While the internals of your bike needs to be serviced in order for the bike to run properly, the surface of the bike is equally important. So, regularly clean your bike’s surface to protect its finish.

While cleaning, make sure that the ignition switch, H.T coil, and the silencer are covered. When you’re not riding the bike, try to park it in the shade as too much exposure to sunlight also damages its appearance.

  1. Maintain Battery

The battery of the bike requires periodic maintenance to keep everything running. So, top-up the battery with distilled water if required and also look for any leakages. If you aren’t using the bike for a long time, ensure that the battery does not drain.

  1. Maintain Brakes

The brake spacing is extremely important and should always be properly set. Brakes being loose or tight can cause a massive problem.

Try and get the brakes tightened according to your own style of riding. Brake oil and scratch pads should be checked regularly too.

  1. Check Fork Oil

Experts recommend changing your bike’s fork oil every 12,000 kilometres or so, for optimum performance.

Additional Precaution You Must Take:

It possible that you are already taking all the necessary steps to protect your bike. Good job! But have you purchased comprehensive bike insurance online to add that extra level of security?

This packaged policy is the combination of third-party insurance and a protection cover for the bike and the owner. Inclusions of this insurance are:

  • Theft of your two-wheeler
  • Damage to the two-wheeler due to natural calamities
  • Man-made calamities like sabotage and civil disturbances
  • Injuries suffered by the owner

Plus, all inclusions of a normal third-party insurance

The Bottom Line:

Following these steps and buying bike insurance online will go a long way in keeping your bike safe.
